Faced with traffic safety data showing that its streets rank among the most dangerous in California, the Modesto City Council voted unanimously to reinstate its red-light camera enforcement program.

Under the five-year agreement, Mesa, Arizona–based Verra Mobility will receive just under $3.7 million to install and operate cameras at 10 high-collision intersections throughout the city.

City officials say the move is part of a broader traffic safety strategy aimed at reducing crashes caused by drivers running red lights. The selected intersections were identified based on collision history and traffic volume, with installation expected to begin later this year.

The cameras will automatically capture violations, and citations will be mailed to vehicle owners. Supporters believe the program will deter dangerous driving behavior and improve overall roadway safety, while critics often question its effectiveness and potential for revenue generation.

Red light cameras are located on the side or the corner of the intersection. Drivers often mistake traffic cameras which are located on the traffic pole. These cameras are monitoring traffic flow only and do not issue photo enforced tickets. We currently track red light cameras, speed camera, toll road cameras, traffic cameras & automatic license plate reader cameras (ALPR). Please contact your local city with questions regarding video, accidents, tickets, fines or unpaid violations. For legal questions please contact a red light camera ticket lawyer.
